This morning I started with a flight from Hanoi to Hue
in the south. Pretty impressed that a brand new A321 was carrying us
down southwards. The flight was smooth but on the landing the captain
already announced – light rain in Hue
– but it should get better. I took the bus from the airport to the
city centre – checked in into a hotel and got ready for the tomb tour I
planned this afternoon. There are several tombs around Hue,
which was the former capital and the grave yards from the kings they
have built during their livetime are around in the countryside. I
arranged a motorbike with driver and we went off – luckily I got some
rain protection with me – and after 15 minutes drive it started to poor
down – never seen this in my live – the streets turned into rivers
water was suddenly at 15-25 cm flowing on the road – and I was on the
back of a motorbike. You can imagine how my status was – though I had
some protection – I was wet like hell – I had luckily wrapped my
backpack in an additional plastic bag to protect if from the rain. When
we arrived at the first tomb, the rain was easing a bit and I could
nearly without rain visit this tomb. The good stuff was, I had the
tombs for my own, since most of the tour groups fled the rain, so it
was a pretty quite and tomb like atmosphere – aside of the rain – but
look at the pictures by yourself.
I
actually wanted to go by motorbike driver to Hoi An today, however,
after my experience from yesterday and the more expected rain showers
of today I have chosen to take the bus instead. Maybe a smart decision.
In
the evening I met by chance Viktor, a French cook travelling the world
for FOUR years – three he has already done – great stuff – over 75
countries visited so far – bit jealous on him – but he had good stories
to tell and this is also the reason and the collapse of the internet
why the blog entry was not ready yesterday.
Let`s see if the weather is better in Hoi An tomorrow.
Tomb of Khai Dinh - last emperor of vietnam from 1916 - 1925 with lots of french influence on the architecture
Tomb of Minh Mang - reign from 1820-1840
The red gate
Tomb of Tu Duc - constructed between 1864 and 1867
